The future

Isaac Okyere is the surgeon who has been tapped to work with Francis Fynn-Thompson on the cardiac surgery cases and eventually do them by himself at Komfe Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). He went to medical school at the School of Medical Sciences - Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology here in Kumasi (it's the medical school associated with KATH) and is currently the senior resident in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the National Cardiothoracic Center in Accra. Isaac was receommended to Francis as being a good candidate to run a pediatric cardiac surgery center in Kumasi. For the duration of the project, he is allowed by his hospital to leave twice a year for two weeks to join the Children's team. He hopes to leave Ghana in about two years so he can complete his training in an intensive fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery before returning to run the KATH program.
